From Alaska to Tierra del Fuego

Done! (for now)

All the pictures have been added, if there is anything else appearing on this blog it will actually be new material. At the moment I'm taking a break in Valparaiso, see my other blog for details. As you might have noticed I have not made it to Tierra del Fuego yet, but I will!
My new plan is to go in November (I will have to cross to Argentina again beginning December, I thought to combine the two). I will make my way south either by ship or doing some hitchhiking, go hiking in Torres del Paine, see penguins and somehow end up in Ushuaia (Argentina).
If anyone wants to exchange European autumn for Chilean spring, come and join me. But bring your own tent unless you are very, very small (or don't mind a cuddle).
In two days Erin is coming to live for a month in Valpo, we will probably end up traveling and hopefully have some crazy adventures, so watch this space

Sand and Salt and Salt and Sand (plus Flamingos)

Andrea hat sich beschwert, dass so wenige Bilder von mir auf dem Blog sind, also hier bitte:

I went on a tour (unadventurous of me, I know) through the Atacama desert to Chile. After my jungle experience I learned my lesson and did some research on tour companies and went with the only tour company with positives reviews on trip advisor. So no alarms and no surprises. The group was the usual, and now a month later the only thing I remember is that the English speaking participants formed their own subgroup immediately. Maybe something about openness and learning another language. Or they just didn't like to listen to non-English accents. Or we non-English speakers simply sucked :)

Anyway, the Atacama desert, highest desert of the world is awesome, though cooooold. Lots of wind results in pretty stone sculptures and Bolivian soldiers hang out on the salt plains, waiting to invade Chile. Even houses are built out of salt here! It's pretty and it has flamingos, what more can I ask for.

Dieser Eintrag ist sehr kurz, weil Fernando seinen Computer wiederhaben moechte und nicht sehr geduldig ist, obwohl er mir heute einen Vortrag ueber Geduld gehalten hat...
