Dear readers. I'm sorry I have not written any blogposts this week. It was an emotional strenuous few days and my milk is sour, so I am left without my morning coffee today .
I have a few blogposts planned, such as the history of my workplace (an old Tuberculosis sanatorium), my neighbourhood in summer, safety advice for Iceland and German words every language should have.
Until then

Beergarden?!?!

My culture has been mutilated beyond recognition. Even the seriously delicious beer and finally having found a decent hot dog in this town cannot stop me from feeling confused. I keep hear myself saying

But this is not a beergarden?

See Fosshotel, you got the beer part right. Actually, you got it amazingly right. For a beer enthusiast this is a place to get to know Icelandic beer. You have basically every beer brewed in Iceland, a lot of them even on tap. Whether it is a classic, like "Norður Kaldi" (a pale ale brewed Czech style) or a seasonal beer like Skaði, which is my new favourite summer beer, there is one for every taste.

However, you completely failed at the garden part. See a beergarden is a very basic affair. It is supposed to have the relaxed atmosphere of a garden party.
With your fancy hotdogs, the wide variety of beer and the slightly upscale atmosphere you might want to rename yourself to something like "gastropub". Though some people also seem to have strong opinions about these, it might prevent poor Germans from being disappointed because they expected to be sitting on hard benches under trees.

Now this is just sad...

A real beergarden

I hate power point

Just spent 15 min trying to transport our 10 slogans for the IWW Ísland "Know your rights" campaign to power point. Should have been a simple copy - paste job. Weird newlines everywhere. Not possible to reformat text. Gave up after 15 min for 2 slides and still not in right format. I refuse to use this piece of shit ever again.

Update
So when I came home from work I decided to see if Libre Office would do this better. And behold! I copied the text into the slide and no unwanted newlines in sight. Time used: 15 min. Impulses to throw my computer against the wall: 0

First day of summer part one - guerrilla gardening

This Thursday was the first day of summer in Iceland. In Iceland there is only summer and winter. The first day of summer marks the beginning of the month of Harpa (the first summer month) according to the old Norse calendar.

It has been gradually become warmer and it had been over 0° the last week so I though this might be good time to do some gardening. I had found some forgotten potatoes in the fridge, which had started to sprout. The chard I had regrown had gotten to big for its pot as well. Klambratún, the park near my house, used to be a vegetable garden and I decided to do some guerrilla gardening there. I always liked the idea to have public vegetable gardens.

We found a space in among the bushes and started planting. We only had spoons to work with, but fortunately the earth was soft and the four potatoes and chard were soon planted. Lets hope that we will have potatoes and chard to harvest in autumn.
